Ahead of its departure for Egypt this week for the Africa U-21 Beach Volleyball Nations Cup, Nigeria’s team has vowed to do the country proud and shock its opponents.

Assistant coach of the U-21 Beach Volleyball team,  Iwerima John expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen on the sidelines of a friendly match organised to prep up the team in Kaduna on Saturday.

“The friendly match was organised for the team  by the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod to keep the team fit.

” This is the fiirst time we are having this and it would prepare the players for competition in Cairo next week.

“We will shock Africa. It’s the U-21 Nations Cup and prelude to a world Cup later in the year,” he said.

Speaking further, he said that Nigeria has participated in much of these competitions in the past and performed well.

“We participated in the last competition and qualified to the world cup,” he said.

On how many players would be embarking on the trip, he said they would be fielding only two players.

“We are going with just two players. No reserves, if one is injured, Nigeria automatically is disqualified,” he revealed.

On what should be expected from them at the world stage later in the year, he said they should cross the African hurdle and qualify first.

“Let’s get the ticket to represent  Africa out of four tickets for available first, then we can plan on how to conquer the world,” he added.
