Founder/Executive Director, Bridge That Gap, Gloria Kasang Bulus made this known during a press briefing ahead of the activities, on Tuesday April 16, 2019 at the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) office in Kaduna.

She said though the day is marked on April 22 annually worldwide, her group is marking it on Thursday April 19, 2019, because April 22, falls on Easter Monday, which is a public holiday in Nigeria.

“Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) is partnering Bridge That Gap in the observance of the 2019 Earth Day Celebrations.

“The event will be celebrated in Kaduna State University (KASU) on Thursday, 19 April, 2019 – there will be Tree Planting exercise @9am and Lecture @10am at the 1000 capacity seat School Hall. to be strengthened, communiqué to be made available,” she said.

Speaking further, she said that already, they have reached  out to key ministries relevant to the activities lined up for the day.

“We hope and pray they come, but even if they fail to come, we are optimistic of a successful outing,” she added.

Bulus stressed that most of the problems mankind is facing in life are either water or environmental related.

She therefore, called for the declaration of a state of emergency on the environment sector, with a view to addressing so many challenges facing it.

Executive Director, Africa Media Development Foundation, Iliya Kure said that as partners, they are also expecting the event to be successful.

“As AMDF media partner, we use this medium to invite you to the event as a supporter. We also admonish you to contribute to the success of the event by covering it.

“We count on your usual support to make this event memorable,” he said.

Earth Day celebration 2019 with the theme “Protect Our Species” is a day to celebrate Earth’s unique species. Nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of species that we know and love, and many more that remain to be discovered.

Unfortunately, human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and, as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction since we lost the dinosaurs more than 60 million years ago. But unlike the fate of the dinosaurs, the rapid extinction of species in our world today is the result of human activity.

This year’s #EarthDay2019 event on “Protect Our Species” seeks to create better understanding on biodiversity conservation and human activities that affects species with the aim to enhance species protection and to promote the restoration of a spectrum of degraded ecosystems to stem the loss of biodiversity.
