The Advocacy Group For Senator Danjuma Goje for Senate President, wishes to call on the incoming 9th assembly of the Senate not to allow itself into being coerced into making the wrong choice of the Senate President.

This was expressed in a statement signed by the Secretary, Musa Ibrahim, made available to newsmen on Monday June 3, 2019 in Kaduna.

“We are deeply worried with the way the Distinguished  Senators of the red chamber are constantly being reminded to vote along party lines ditching the democratic value of free choice which is the exclusive right of the senators themselves.

“We still maintain our stand of giving Nigerians the best choice on the seat of the third most powerful person in our beloved country, which apparently will be consigned to the background when zoning is the sole criteria to be forced on the senators when it comes to choosing the next senate president,” the group said.

Taking a critical look at those eyeing the Senate Presidency, of them all, Distinguished Senator Danjuma Goje is the only candidate that is eminently qualified for the job.

He was a Governor of Gombe state for eight years, after which he became a Senator.
They further pointed out that as a Governor in his state, Danjuma Goje, by all standards, can be described as the father of the modern day Gombe.

“His achievements speak for him in all nooks and crannies of the state.

“He has been able to ensure that the common man on the streets of Gombe has a taste of what democracy is all about. This was made possible because of his desire to uplift the standard of living of his people.

“His prudence and leadership style earned him to be appointed as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation. This is a responsibility that is only giving to trusted and financially disciplined personalities.

“Danjuma Gojes commitment to bequeath an everlasting legacy in wherever he finds himself is not in doubt.

“His expected emergence as the President of the 9th Senate will no doubt bring leadership to a more pragmatic, focussed and vibrant National Assembly, where due diligence and the rule of law will be allowed to work, towards entrenching the ideals of promoting good governance for the benefit of all,” they stressed.

They therefore, called on the Senators from both the PDP and APC to vote for competency in deciding who the next President of the Senate will be, including the other leaders of the red chamber.

“By so doing they will be distancing the incoming assembly from the politics of godfatherism being championed by some old fashioned politicians.

“We strongly advocate for a contest on June 11 when the leadership of the National Assembly would be inaugurated” they concluded.
