Pepsi Academy have beaten TEWORH Skills Centre to emerge winners of the 2019 Edition of TEWORH Foundation War Against Drug Abuse Youth Sporting Fiesta.
The feat was achieved penalty shoot out after both teams failed to win during the regulation time.
It took a sudden death decision for winners to emerges after they again were Kevel after penalty shoot out featuring all team members, including goal keepers.
The hockey pitch of the Murtala Square Kaduna, went wild with jubilation from supporters of Pepsi Academy after a player from TEWORH Centre ballooned the ball over the bar, to separate both sides from winners and runners-up.
After an explosive encounter, Team YSFON placed third, while Kada Queens settled for the fourth position.
All four tops team were presented with trophies, while other teams, Vocoyebil Unique Schools and AlAnsar Academy were commended as participants who failed to win laurels.
Captain of Pepsi Academy, Usman Hassan also emerged Man of the Match and was awarded scholarship to TERWOH SSC to learn skills.
In the Table Tennis Event, Oluchi Onah of Kaduna Queens by two straight sets, beat Chinedu Emmanuel Chinaka of TERWOH Sports and Skills Centre to claim the gold, two other participants were not on the podium as only two medals were up for grabs.
In his remarks at the closing ceremony, TEWORH Foundation CEO, Suraj Ola Abdulwahab said that the youth are lucky to have people that can guide and nurture them.
He advised them to learn other skills or trade so that after a career in sports they can have something to fall on.
He said at TERWOH, they have various skills acquisition training like carpentry, arts and others.
Also speaking, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Professor, Bello Alhassan admonished the youth to always be active in sport in view of its advantages physically, psychologically and mentally.
“Look at me at the age of 63 I still have this physique, which many of my mates can only dream of. It is as a result of staying physically fit,” he added.
The event was the second lap of activities organized by TEWORH SSC and key partners in sensitizing the youth on dangers of drug abuse as party of activities to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The first lap featured a dialogue that attracted teachers, parents and the community, held on Wednesday June 26 also at the Murtala Square.
