Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has expressed optimism that the Second Agency Banking Fair, Kano 2019, will be an avenue to further enhance financial inclusion in the 44 local government areas of the state.
He expressed this while declaring open the fair on Monday July 1, 2019 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Represented by his immediate past SSA on Cabinet Matters, Sagir Mohammed, he said that the state government is committed to ensuring that Kano State becomes one of the most financially inclusive states in the country.
“The idea is to bring banking services to our doorsteps through introducing agency banking in all the 44 LGAs in the state.
“Most of our local business men refuse to go to banks because of religious implications but now we have banks that do not give interest,” he said.
Speaking further, he said with what the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is doing, it is bringing financial inclusion to their door steps without any difficulties.
“This fundamental issue of interest and Muslims all over the world has prevented a lot of people from banking services. But now there are banks that do things without interest, so our people would gladly open accounts,” he said.
The Second Agency Banking Fair, Kano 2019 organised by Bizi Mobile Cashless Consultant in partnership with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kano State Government and Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
