The Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Sports,  Ibrahim Mohammed has expressed confidence that Team Kano would excel at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) at the University of Ilorin.
He stated this after the Kano male football team lost 0-1 to Delta in semifinal match of the event on Friday at the Maricana Stadium.
The Permanent Secretary said that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje ensured they got all required to ensure a successful outing, hence the gesture will be rewarded with a brilliant outing.
“Hopefully we will perform better than last year. The Governor provided everything we need and we provided all the equipment to the teams.
“We are hoping to get two gold medals on today (Friday),” he said.
Commenting on the rumours making rounds that the states athletes welfare were not been adequately catered for, he said that it was not true.
“It is not true that our athletes welfare are not taken care of. Their feeding is not the responsibility of Kano State,” he said.
Speaking further, he frowned at what he perceived as the presence of athletes over the 15 years age limit.
“There is issue of age limits, but some states have not complied with it.
“We have several players but because we want to comply, we came with those within approved age limits. In swimming, we came with a seven year old and he won bronze in swimming.
“We are still surprised that even today, one of our players was screened out in the game of handball,” he said.
