The recent Northern Governors Forum emergency meeting has been described as a mare Coffee Meeting and a get-together Party.
A youth activist, Comrade Abdullahi Almustapha who made this assertion in a press statement he made available to newsmen said, “with all due respect, i don’t think the so called Northern Governors’ Forum are taking serious and necessary actions in finding lasting solutions to the to the problems that had been facing in the Northern part.”
His words, “From all indications, there are no positive outcomes regarding the meeting which he noted has no difference with Coffee meeting or a kind of get- together party organized by the governors.”
According to him, “I expected they would deliberate on issues surrounding insecurity and finding lasting solutions to the incessant Farmer-Harder clashes, Cattle Rustling, Banditry, kidnapping and above all the deadly attacks on communities in the territory.”
He lamented that unfortunately, they spent almost seven to eight hours discussing what he termed “irrelevant issues like the Ruga project because Federal Government made a promise to give counterpart Funds”, stressing that this is very shameful.
Abdullahi further explained, “ I expected that Minister of Defense, Director of DSS, Inspector General of Police, State Commissioners of Police, Brigade Commandants/Area Commandants, State Commandants of Civil Defense, Directors of Security Personnel, State Commandants of Vigilantes Group and District Heads would be invited by the Forum to attend the emergency meeting.”
He decried that it is very sad to say, “non of them was invited to the meeting, so how could they have managed to discuss the critical security situation and finding lasting solutions without the appearances of these respective and responsible bodies.
He disclosed that, the major findings was, the governors are not objective and comprehensive in mapping out the root causes of the instability in the region, pointing out that “I was highly disappointed and discouraged by the so called Northern Governor’s Forum, for not portraying the issue as it is in the meeting.”
Abdullahi then used the opportunity to call on the youth and the concerned bodies to prevail on the “so called Governors to arrange for another meeting with the responsible bodies.”
