The Vice President,, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has praised the role the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has okayed in ensuring peace and stability not only in Nigeria, but the African continent.
He expressed this while speaking at the 30th Convocation Ceremony of the NDA In honour of Cadets of 67 regular course, postgraduate students and honorary Degree Awardees at the Academy auditorium NDA, Afaka on Thursday.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, the Vice President who was ably represented by Minister of Defence, Major General Salihi Magashi (rtd), said that in the last 55 years the Nigerian Defence Academy, it has consistently produced world best officers for the armed forces.
“This crucial role has contributed immensely in the maintenance of our territorial integrity in preservation of unity in Nigeria as a corporate entity,” he stressed.He said that the institution has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s territorial integrity and preservation of the country unity as a corporate entity.
“Additionally since the establishment of NDA as an officer training institution, it has produced military officers for the armed forces of Nigeria and sister African countries who have performed excellently in peace keeping duties,” he added.
He congratulated the commandant, staff and officers of the institution for the incredible job they are doing for the nation.
“I am aware that the academy is serving the dual function of military and academic training of subjects. It is therefore, pleasing to note that in both roles, they performed credibly.
“The federal government is aware of the significance of education as a tool for progress and national development. It is in this regard that the present administration is giving priority to the provision of quality education at all the three tiers of our educational system,” he assured.
He explained further that such importance is reflected in the allocation of N625 billion for this purpose.
“Part of this allocation will provide suitable environment for our universities to strive and fulfill their mandate of research, teaching and community service.
” I am also happy to say that the Federal Government free school feeding programme has been successful.
“I should also emphasized that the present administration is living no stone unturned in ensuring that each and every child in Nigeria has access to quality education. At this juncture I wish to reiterate the federal government’s support for the academy,” he submitted.
