PRESS RELEASE BY KACHIA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (KCDA)
ON THE GRUESOME MURDER OF MUJTABA
We woke up in Kachia on Friday the 15th of November 2019, with the unfortunate sad confirmation that Mujtaba Saminu who was last seen on Sunday the 10th of November at Chibiya town of Kajuru Local Government Area, was not actually kidnapped as earlier thought but brutally killed, burnt to ashes and his remains dumped in a shallow grave.
In the last two months there were at least four (4) different instances ,where our people were killed around the same general area.
However, the case of Mujtaba presents a
different perspective as he was never a stranger around the area he was murdered.
Late Mujtaba was first accosted Friday the 8th of November, 2019 in Maro by some Adara youths but was saved by the intervention of a good Samaritan, who insisted that he must not be harmed and the matter was finally resolved at the palace of the village Head of Maro that he should be allow to pass. He thereafter left Maro and proceeded to Chibiya, where the same scenario re-occurred, where he was made to remove-his cap, which they insisted typified a Fulani dress.
However, on Sunday the 10th of November 2019 at a( market Day) late Mujtaba went to Chibiya with a new motorcycle ,which belong to one of his friends , he conducted his normal business for that day and even gave some of the items he bought to a car driver to be delivered to his house in Kachia late Mujtaba was on that day by a lot of people that were in the market including his father .Indeed Chibiya was the last place he was seen alive .
On Monday 11th November 2019, late Mujtaba’s wife called his father to report that her husband didn’t return home the previous night .His father lately placed a call to Chibiya and inquired (as he left his son left there around 5pm on that Sunday). He was informed that his son has allegedly left Chibiya .
Late Mujtaba’s father then proceeded to Chibiya in search of his son, inquiring from the communities along the way, at Chibiya he was told that his son had allegedly left with a bag of groundnuts on his motorcycle, the father then returned to Kachia and filed a complaint with the Kachia Division of the Nigerian Police Force and the DSS head, in Kachia.
Family members, friends and some members of the communities decided to wait for a possible call as the initial thoughts were that of kidnapping they tried his numbers but the lines were switched off until much later on that Monday when his Glo 08050574236 and
MTN number 070 35880022 went through, it rang severally; but no response, however, after several attempts it was later picked and someone responded rudely and switched off the phone.
Subsequently, on Wednesday 12th November 2019, Family and community members decided to contact the Nigerian Naval Formation in Kachia for assistance and they graciously accepted to lead the search into the suspected area (as they have done in similar incidences that happened in the past where they successfully recovered dead bodies). The operation on Wednesday ended without success. The Naval team went back on Thursday, but late Mujtaba was still not found until Friday morning, when on the basis of a credible intelligence the Search focused on a particular area in Chibiya during which the Naval team lead the family and community members to locate late Mujtaba’s body, found brutally burnt and buried in a shallow grave. However, a part of his body and trousers was recognized
Consequently,The discovery heighten tension in Kachia which necessitated an emergency meeting of the leadership of Kachia community Development Association (KCDA) during which it was resolved that, the leadership must do everything possible to ensure that our people remain calm and law abiding This was achieved with the assurance to the community that the leadership would follow all legal means to ensure
that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
As leaders of KCDA, we remain very much committed to that promise and shall follow through to ensure that justice is served in time without any unnecessary delay .We therefore wish to reiterate our call on the people to maintain peace as we intend to always to keep the updated on the situation
Meanwhile, we are pleased to note that the Kaduna state Government have taken action and some arrests were carried out, but we call for vigilance in order to ensure that all necessary steps being taken by the Government are not frustrated.
We also call on the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of his Excellency, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-rufai to as a matter of urgency ensure that all those involved in the gruesome attacked of late Mujtaba are arrested and prosecuted.
We again call on the Kaduna State Government to ensure that the families of Mujtaba and the owner of the motorcycle used by late Mujtaba on that fateful day he was killed are adequately compensated.
