*450 to benefit from two communities

From December 2019 to November 2022, EWEI, with a grant from the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund), launched “Our Safe Spaces” a project to support women and girl survivors of gender-based violence, physical, economic violence and sexual nexploitation in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Our Safe Spaces will promote beneficiaries’ access to psychosocial support systems and economic empowerment opportunities to facilitate normalisation of their lives.
This was contained in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday in Kaduna.
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (unaware Trust Fund) is the only global grant-making mechanism dedicated exclusively to addressing all forms of violence against women and girls at local and national levels. To date, the UN Trust Fund has supported 462 organizations in 139 countries and territories. The three priority areas of focus include Preventing violence; Expanding access to services for survivors; and Strengthening the implementation of national laws.
UN Trust Fund representative Lorna Mesina, Portfolio Manager for the UNTF’s Special Humanitarian Window focused on Women and Girl Refugees and IDPs highlighted that
” The project, is focused on prevention and response to be implemented in two semi-urban communities in, Ungwan Dosa in Kaduna North and Ungwan Romi in Kaduna South puts forward a much needed intervention, to provide assistance to women and girls caught in the crossfire of communal violence. The project includes a needs assessment to inform the design of appropriate capacity building activities on counselling and economic empowerment and advocacy as well as engagement with influencers and decision makers to take specific actions.
We are very excited about the contribution EWEI through this project, will contribute to making women and girls safer, in Kaduna.”
EWEI’s Programme Officer for Organisational Development and Partnerships, Grace Attah expressed how pleased EWEI is to engage in this partnership with the UN Trust Fund: “We are very happy that the needs of girls and women in Kaduna state are being responded to and call on more agencies to follow the commendable steps of the UN Trust Fund.
We will be working closely with our partners and experts to provide the highest quality of activities and sustainable support to project beneficiaries.”
