A socio cultural group, Runji Sankwab Progressive Forum has urged local government councils in Kaduna State to prioritize rural road constructions to ease mobility and transportation of food crops.

Secretary of the forum, Mrs Naomi Emmanuel Gwazah made the call while on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Zango Kataf Local Government Council, Dr. Elias Manzah.

She stated that youth in rural communities migrate to urban areas due lack of access roads and other necessary facilities to make life bearable to them.

She explained that Runji Sankwab Progressive Forum was at the local government zecretariat to appeal for construction of access road to Runji Sankwab which she described as ‘unmotorable’ in its present position.

“Runji/Sankwab is among the worst in that regards, compared to other communities in the whole local government area. We are in an enclosed community having only one entry and exit route because the community is surrounded by River(s).

“Crossing to nearby communities like Mashan, Matyei and Wawa Rafi which are all a stone throw to us has been a Herculean task. Some of our people have died in attempts to cross the river including a traditional leader”.

Mrs.  Emmanuel however, commended the local government council for the projects executed within it’s one and a half year in office.

Responding, the Chairman, Dr. Elias Manzah said the policy of the council is to address areas with special needs on projects execution without any bias.

He said the local government implements the minimum wage increase in line with the state government’s principles of civil servants welfare.

The council chairman narrated that the local government revenues were inadequate considering staff strength and the huge amount it is remitting for security charges,(Conflict Charges).

Dr. Elias Manzah however promised to put priorities of the people first in all programmes at the local government.
