Consolidating on the successes recorded in 2019, the One Win Basketball Camp will be rolling out six editions in 2020.

CEO/Founder One Win Camp, Coach Christiana Mark Nnorom aka Coach Carter disclosed this at the weekend in Kaduna during the last camp for the year 2019 at the Federal Cooperative College, Gonin Gora.

“In 2019 we ran four programmes, but 2020 we would be looking forward to six programmes,” she said.

Coach Carter said that the rounding up camp for the year was a huge success, thanking the United States of America Embassy in Abuja for all the support rendered.

“The US Embassy has always been supporting they are still supporting. Kudos to the US Embassy Abuja they are the number one supporters. We thank them, without them we wouldn’t be making much progress.

“This time around we had 230 girls, feed them and transport them, give them t-shirts. It is a one month camp, rounding up on 28 December,” she said.

On success stories recorded since the One Win Camp commenced, she expressed satisfaction that much has been achieved.

“There is a lot of success stories, lots of the girls have improved academically and they have learnt some life skills which they are using to support their parents. There is a lot of prospects,” she said.

On the importance of the camp, she stressed that they are using it to empower the girl-child who is vulnerable in the society.

“If you empower a woman, you have empowered a whole nation, corporate organization should see the need to support because of the benefits in near future,” she explained.

When asked why the mixed camp for boys and girls couldn’t hold this year as planned, she said they are concentrating on grooming the girls first.

“The boys and girls camp will be for next year. We had to round up the girls camp. The girl child is vulnerable, the boys are empowered already. A lot of rape, molestation going on, if they know their rights, they would know what to do,” she submitted.

She thanked the US Embassy Abuja and Global Sports Mentoring Programme (GSMP) for making the camp successful, while calling on corporate organisations, government and public spirited individuals to support in empowering the girl-child

When asked where the name Carter came from, she explained that it was handed down to her by fellow coaches.

“The name coach Carter came about as a result of the way I train them with discipline, so people and other coaches started calling me Coach Carter,” she revealed.
