What could be described as a mysterious fire on Wednesday night February 5, 2020 fire gutted Motor Spare Parts outlet Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital and razed down shops, with goods worth millions of Naira destroyed.


Narrating the ugly incident, one of the victims, Mr. Anigor John Igwe, a mechanical engineer told AUTHENTIC News Daily that it was on that fateful Wednesday midnight that he received a call that the motor spare parts popularly known as site was on fire.


According to him, he quickly rushed to the site where he met his shop already razed down and two vehicles including Nissan Pathfinder jeep, and Nissan Sunny under his care consumed beyond recognition.


In his words, “It was yesterday night around 1:00Am that I received a call from Our neighbour here called Ekeson that fire from nowhere has gutted Motor spare parts popularly known as site, which I quickly drove my car to this place but meet crowd who were busy dragging their goods afar from the fire scene “.


“I rushed to my shop but could not recognize my store again because all the spare parts in my shop, Autel Car Diagnosing machine I bought last December burnt to ashes, Tyres, all my tools and two vehicles I am repairing got burnt beyond recognition with parts worth over four million naira destroyed, in short, I am finished!”


“We are appealing to Ebonyi State government led by Engr. David Umahi through the State Emergency Management Agency and other good spirited individuals to come to our aid, as you can see that the two vehicles which I loosened their parts yesterday but could not finish them and all my working tools burnt to ashes”.


Also speaking, Engr. Jumbo Pan Moses Igwe, described the incident as a mysterious fire, stressing that they left their shop with no admonition of such incident occuring but woke up to met ashes in the place of their shops.
He said, “My phone had low battery yesterday night, this morning,we came to our shops as usual but could not trace our places again as a mysterious fire has destroyed our property and spare parts we loose from customer’s vehicles and burnt beyond recognition.


“I lost over six million naira worth of goods with my working tools to the fire. We, are calling for help because this incident has done much damage to our lives as our source of family income has been affected”.


On his part, Mr. Innocent Ofoke, a Panel Beater,Painter and Wheel Barrow Producer who spoke to us amidst tear lamented that the fire cannot be traced to anybody since according to him, there’s fence demarcating the market from the nearby bush.


Mr. Ofoke appealed the state government to extend it’s hand of help to the victims as they are left with no alternative option as traders with family whose only source livelihood has been gutted by fire.


When Citizens’ Advocate contacted the office of State Fire Service Commission to ascertain the cause of the fire, their phone was not available as at the time of filing the report.
