Arrangements are on top gear by the Ministry of Sports Development to organise the 6th edition of Kaduna State Sports Festival scheduled to hold between February 24 and March 1.

The Festival is being organised for the first time in over 10 years to identify talents from the grassroots for an effective participation of the State at the National Sports Festival and other national competitions.

Over 5,000 athletes and officials from all 23 Local Government Areas across the State will compete for laurels in 16 sporting events, namely, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, tennis and hockey.

Others are athletics (track & field), cricket, badminton, traditional sports (Langa, Ayo, kokuwa), swimming, golf, chess, scrabble and dart.

The one-week fiesta offers a good platform for expressing and implementation of Kaduna State Government sporting programmes at the grassroots levels which is one of the cardinal principles of Governor Nasir el-Rufai administration.

In addition, the Festival would provide another opportunity to consolidate on the peaceful atmosphere and build bridges of unity and strengthen stability, tranquility and peaceful coexistence in the State.
