Chikun LGA Dominates Kaduna Sports Festival Despite Grumbling From Its Athletes

    In spite of grumblings over welfare by its athletes, Chikun Local Government is putting up a good show in athletics at the ongoing 6th Kaduna State Sports Festival.

    Some athletes from the local government area had expressed fears liver their welfare and allowances, but Ayomide Oyetunji and Rachael Bernard won the 100m and 200m men and women respectively at the Kaduna State Sports Festival. 

    The Ahmadu Bello Stadium Mondo track was on fire as Ayomide Oyetunji of Chikun LGA ran 10.4secs to win the 100m ahead of Moses Onuche also of Chikun (10.6secs) and Salisu Mohammed of Zango Kataf who also ran 10.6secs to win bronze. 

    Rachael Bernard of Chikun LGA won the women 100m with 11.8sec, Taiye Ogundele of Kajuru LGA ran 12.3secs to win silver, while Blessing Ikpa of Chikun LGA ran 12.6secs to win bronze medal. 

    Ayomide Oyetunji won the men 200m with 21:00secs, Collins Eze of Jema’a LGA ran 21:6secs to win silver medal, while Kaduna state U-17 champion, Ogazi Samuel of Kaduna North LGA ran 21:7secs to win bronze. Ogazi Samuel had ran 11.1secs to place sixth in the 100m. 

    Rachael Bernard ran 25.4secs to ensure her sprint double beating Taiye Ogundele (25.8secs) and Udoro Udonaqak of Jema’a LGA who ran 26.3secs to place third. 

    Ayomide Oyetunji and Rachael Bernard also won the 4x100m male and female races respectively. Giwa LGA won the silver medal and Kagarko LGA placed third in the 4x100m men relay, while Jema’a LGA came second and Zango Kataf LGA won the bronze medal in the women 4×100 relay.

    When contacted, Chikun LGA official in charge of the festival, who simply gave his name as Bala explained that N1,500 has been approved daily for seven days for its representatives.

    He made the clarification while contacted by sports writers over the grumblings by its athletes, who said only four thousand Naira was released for welfare of athletes and coaches.

    “That 4k is not part of their feeding, their feeding and other logistics will be given please, Including their coaches sir,” he clarified.

    Unofficial records as at Wednesday from a reliable source says Chikun LGA leafs with 11 gold medals, 10 of which are from athletics.

    However on the official overall media table, Laura LGA in on top with 7 gold, 3 silver and four bronze medals.
    Giwa LGA are second with five gold, and one silver, while Chikun who dominated proceedings in athletics are third with four gold, four silver and five  bronze medals.

    Zango Kataf are fourth with four gold, four silver and four bronze medal, while Kudan LGA occupy the fifth spot with two gold, three silver and one bronze.
