As the curtains are drawn today for the 6th Kaduna State Sports Festival, it is still difficult to say which local government areas will carry the day as it remains a close call between underdogs Kaura LGA who are currently topping the official medals table and Chikun LGA who are favourites, but are second on the table.

Kaduna State Governor,  Malam Nasir el-Rufai is expected to declare the festival close today, Saturday March 7, 2020 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, when the winners will emerge.

According to the present table, both LGAs  have 13 gold medals apiece,  but Kaura is ahead of Chikun courtesy of  a silver medal.

On the table, Kaura has 13 gold, 8 silver, eight bronze, Chikun follows with 13 gold, seven silver and eight bronze, while Giwa is placed third with five gold and one silver.
Chikun has an advantage as it’s athletes dominated the athletics events, but had a poor showing in others.

The competition which is aimed at preparing the State ahead of the  National Sports Festival (NSF) Edo 2020, was declared open on Monday in a colourful ceremony by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe.

Sixteen events were competed for in the weeklong festival, which attracted no fewer than 2,000 athletes from across the 23 LGAs of the state, as well as independent athletes and teams.
