Best Start Academy have emerged champions of the third edition of the Beijing International School 5-A-Side Football Tournament.
They emerged winners from a round robin fixture that saw hosts Beijing International School finish as runners-up.
Darud Tauheed International Academy placed third at the end of the two-day tournament, held within the premises of Beijing International School.
Four schools which were invited had earlier registered, but one was disqualified for fielding ineligible athletes.
With the disqualified, Muda Schools out of this year’s competition.
In an interview with newsmen, Principal of Beijing International Schools, Emmanuel Achinbee said that the competition was initiated by him to discover and harness hidden talents.
“I notice that a lot of students in schools are talented and don’t have means of expressing themselves,” he said.
He explained that the first edition was staged in in 2018.
“We invited four schools for the first edition. Second edition was three teams, while the third, we also invited four schools,” he informed.
According to him, the best three schools get trophies and cash prizes at the end of each edition.
“First position gets N10,000, second N7,500 and third N5,000,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that Pepsi Academy has so far selected about seven outstanding students.
On future plans for the tournament, he said that for now, it is invitational, but they are looking for sponsors so that they can expand the tournament.
It would first recalled that the first edition of the tournament was won by edition won by St Patrick International.
Hosts, Beijing International won the second edition.
Four matches were played on opening day and two on final day.
Notable among dignitaries that were present at the closing ceremony was Coach Solomon Nor, who was well known in his active days with IBB Homers.
