Covid-19:Council Chairman Orders Immediate Seal of Ekeaba Market

Following the alleged attack on anti CoronaVirus sensitization team led by Abakaliki Local Government Area Executive Chairman, Honourable Emmanuel Nwangele, on Friday April 3, 2020 at Ekeaba Ogbee Hausa Market in Abakaliki Ebonyi State capital city, the council Boss has directed the immediate sealing and closure of the market.

The Local Government Chairman gave the directive shortly after the physical attack in Abakaliki, noting that the traders are not above the law and should not distract the good work of the governor, who is ensuring that the state remain CoronaVirus free through proper imbibing on World Health Organization’s guildlines. 

Our reporter who was with the team during the on the spot visitation of major markets and business areas observed that the anti CoronaVirus sensitization team was verbally and physically attacked by some alleged traders which prompted the order of the indefinite sealing of the business area.

According to the Chairman, “Our routine duty recently had been moving from village to village, community to community and market to market sensitizing people on safety guide against the deadly disease, CoronaVirus.

“Today, we agreed to visit markets which we started from Nkwoagu and other markets but on our arrival at Ekeaba Market, the traders prevented us from entry and we tried all we could to explain to them that we came to know the level of compliance on hand washing as one of the measures to control CoronaVirus spread as directed by the state government but they attacked my team for which I have ordered the indefinite closure of the market”

Lending his voice, the Coordinator, Amachi Development Center, Honourable Obinna Nwiboko, hinted that the people are complying to the directive of hand washing and use of nose mask, commending them for being conscious of their health.

He pointed out that the directive of indefinite closure of Ekeaba Market would help the market community to know that nobody is above the law, and called on the general public to see the campaign against CoronaVirus spread as everybody’s business where what affects one, affects all.

Also, Chairman Abakaliki Rice Mill, Honourable Ogodo Samuel appreciated the local government Chairman for visiting the company, noting that the on spot visit would encourage traders to embrace father the World Health Organization’s guildlines on fight against the scourge
