Rights Activist, Comrade Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho has called on the Managing Director of the Delta State Hospital Management Board, Dr Fumilayo Omaraka to provide Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to all health workers domiciled in the government health institutions in the state.
In a statement on Thursday in Warri, the rights activist said that most government health institutions in the state under surveillance decries the manner and method health workers are handling cases of patients in the state on suspicion of being infected with COVID-19.
He said, “Health workers in the state are not happy with the State Government for not providing them with PPEs and when I confronted the Managing Director of the Delta State Hospital Management Board, Dr(Mrs) Fumilayo Omoraka , she said ‘the health workers should improvised or purchase for themselves’.
“These health workers are now in situation where they are now forced to protect themselves and in doing that, they have to discriminate against patients.
“They make their own face masks with mere clothing materials which is not medically approved for the protection against COVID-19.
“Most health centres and government health institutions are now avoiding physical contacts with patients due to fear of contacting COVID-19 from Patients.
“The World health Organisation (WHO) has warn against discrimination as it relates to COVID-19 , a situation where health workers are being forced to discrimate against patients on suspicion of being infected with COVID-19 is unacceptable .
“The State government must do the needful by providing PPEs to all health workers domiciled in all government owned health institutions .
“The argument here is not whether the various isolation centres are provided with PPEs but whether PPEs should be provided to all government owned health institutions in Delta State.
“These government health institutions are near collapse as a result of the deficiency of PPEs, the activist weep”.
