A 73 year old man and indigene of Ohagolede Village, Ndieze Community, Mr Nwogbodo Nwoda was on Friay allegedly ostracized from his home by a group of persons led by Mr Monday Udeogu at Izzi LGA in Ebonyi State.

The victim told our reporter that the youth leader, Mr Monday, and his loyalists allegedly stormed his compound, beat him and his son, Mr Chinedu mercilessly and dispossessed of them of Samsung handset that worths twenty thousand naira and cash of six thousand seven hundred naira.

The victim further explained that after the torture the accused persons later invited their village head, Mr Nwibo Adonwe, who allegedly aggravated the situation by engaging the service of their town crier through which the entire villagers were assembled and mobilized with some dangerous weapons who invaded the man’s premises while chanting war songs and damaged over five hundred tubers of yam, 9 goats, 3 dogs and great number of economic trees.

According to him,” Mr Monday Udeogu and his cohorts really dealt with me, can you believe that they killed and taken away my 9 goats, 3 dogs and stole cash of two million naira that my children are using for their ongoing building project, cartered away a large number of fowls from my farm and harvested all the fishes in my ponds even when I have not done any evil against him and his family rather,my children open borehole and made it free for everybody” Mr Nwoda said.

It was gathered that the victim inherited a compound which comprises a portion of farm land from his late father which he had been occupying with his family from the time immemorial until in the year 2018, when the village youth leader, Mr Monday and his cohorts approached him with the request that the swamp area of the said property should be relinguished for the village.

But the man, having known that his right of ownership of the landed property is legal and in accordance with  Izzi traditional criteria for owning a property known as ” Ala aturu atu” meaning that the customary rite granting him ownership of the land had been made, he objected the request and following the people’s alleged pressure and defiance, he went and reported the matter at Amegu, the ancestral home of Izzi Clan where after keen deliberation, Mr Monday and some of his loyalists were penalized through payment of fines.

“This problem became intensified after the ruling made by Amegu Traditional Institution where my assailants were mildly disciplined and since that period, they had been viewing my family as their enemy and treating us with contempt until on 7th May 2020 when they openly attacked us with all sorts of weapon and chased us away” he said.

Mr Nwogbodo reiterated that members of the group conspired among themselves and ordered that the swampy portion of his land would be taken away from him and shared for the villagers but following the decision of the traditional institution at Amegu, the intruders were fined for delving into the said property and based on the action taken, the youths, in their part launched the attack on him as a pay back.

He therefore alleged that Mr Monday and his group had sworn to wipe away his family from earth surface so that all his belongings would be shared among them and thereby he called on the State government and other meaningful individuals to intervene in the matter to enable him and his household return to their home.

A stakeholder of the area, Chief Chris Lebara told our reporter that in the time past, the problem was taken to their ancestral home at Amegu where the elders gave verdict that all the people whose swampy portions of land were mapped out for collective use should take the action in good fate and those with pending cases either in the courts or police stations would withdraw such matters.

Following the judgement, no fewer than ten other villagers who had already performed the traditional rites of owning landed properties had relinquished theirs and accepted the inquest in good fate but surprisingly Mr. Nwogbodo Nwoda and his family members began to make issues over the decision.

“The swampy portions are usually shared and give to all villagers on lease between three hundred and four hundred naira as a means of generating income for the people in general and also make those whom ordinarily would not have had access to the area to feel the impact of other persons.”

“For the sake of unity, some stakeholders had approached the man and his children to exercise patience because, if he insists in retrieving his, others may follow suit”, he said

According to Chief Lebara, alleging that the supposed action of destruction of livestocks and economic trees had not been confirmed as the handiwork of the youths owing to the fact that one of the victim’s sons is in the habit of threatening to indict the villagers perhaps, those things were done mainly to incriminate the people.

Another stakeholder, Chief John Bekei described the allegation stating that some youths were fined two years ago by Amegu elders regarded as  the Traditional Supreme court of Izzi Clan for trespassing on Mr Nwogbodo’s land as a blatant lie while claiming that the said fine was paid by the village over a separate mistake made by some persons.

” The Traditional Institution at Amegu has been regarded as the Supreme Court of Izzi Clan and whatever decision taken by the elders bounds on all” he said.

However, AUTHENTIC News Daily during his visit to the area, gathered that the village leaders had warned members of the village not to disclose any information related to the family to outsider as going contrary will attract same person being, even as anybody found associating with them outside the place goes with same punishment.

The Police Image maker, DSP Loveth Odah told our correspondent that there has not been an official report concerning the incident and as a result charged members of the public to always provide Nigeria police with information so that issues of such nature could easily be nibbed at the bud.
