It was a great moment of shock for traders along Afikpo Street in Abakaliki metropolis around 3:06 pm on Friday, when some suspected armed robbers invaded Vita Foam shop at No.23 Afikpo Street and shot twice at the store owner.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, told AUTHENTIC News Daily that she was in her shop when she saw some suspected armed men with one of them onto ignition of their motorcycle on standby, while the gang members operate.
The source hinted that the shop operator was seen battling with the armed men calling attention of the public but close by, store owners were watching with fear as the action unfolded.
The source further disclosed that during the battle with the robbers who struggled to collect the money from the victim, the armed man shot at her breast resulting in her falling down while they zoomed off with their motorcycle.
Speaking with the victim, Miss Monica (other name withheld) on her sick bed at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA 2), Abakaliki, she recalled that the incident occured after attending to a customer and was taking record of the sales in readiness to send her colleague to bank to deposit the money.
According to her, a young man entered demanding to know the cost of 16inches foam, quickly she rose to attend to him but he pointed gun at her asking for the day’s sales.
In her words, “I was in the shop after making sales and finished counting money and gave my colleague to go deposit in the bank, in the process, somebody entered our shop and asked how much we are selling 16inches foam.
“I was thinking he was a customer until he pointed gun at me and asked me to submit that money to him which I resisted. At that moment, I dropped the money and struggled with him.
“As we were struggling on the floor, he shot at me but my stiff resistance calling for help with nobody coming to my rescue as everybody was scared. He stood up and jumped on the motorcycle and they zoomed off,” she explained.
