Umahi Reviews 2020 Proposed Budget

    The Ebonyi state governor Engr.David Umahi has reviewed the proposal of N178.366 billion as revised proposed budget for the 2020 fiscal year. 
    The governor stated this during a consultative meeting with stake holders, community leaders, security chiefs, leaders of non governmental and civil society organizations among others, held at Christian Ecumenical center Abakaliki.
    In the 2020 appropriation, Ebonyi state signed into law 178.366 billion, the governor explained that due to the impact of covid 19 in the nations economy, the budget was no longer realistic infont the downward review to 131.847 billion naira to be presented to Ebonyi state house of Assembly. 
    According to the governor, the 2020 appropriation will be reduce to 26% saying that health  and educational sectors which are critical in the fight against COVID-I9 pandemic will receive the highest funds
    He further explained that the state government intended to fund the propose revised budget from its federal government allocation, internal generated revenue noting that the meeting was in line with  world bank and CBN directives.
    Governor Umahi said that his adminstration had spent N1.769 billion under recurrent in the covid 19 crisis management between January to May this year while capital expenditures were 474 billion, stated that his adminstration owned no contractor for any completed project.
    He added that ring roads that will embark upon runs through seven local government areas, Ebonyi north and Ebonyi central zones of the state which was about 147km of roads to be financed with #150 million loan. 
    However, the governor said that he has constructed 31km out of 147km on eight thick concrete pavement which has caused 25% counter part fund.
    Meanwhile, the state commissioners in key ministries appreciated the governor for the giving the citizens the opportunity to make inputs in the revised budget and promised for their total support in his adminstration.
    Also in his reaction, the National president, Nigeria union of journalist Deacon Chris  Isiguzo described media as a critical partners in governance emphasizing that the meeting had aligned the state government with Democratic requirements while saying that media men in Ebonyi state will continue to project the good work of the governor at all time.
