Banditry: COAS Launches Exercise Sahel Sanity In North West

    The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has Monday launched the Exercise Sahel Sanity Operation to mitigate Banditry in the Northwest.

    Speaking during the formal flagging off of the Exercise held at the Nigerian Army Special Super Camp 4 located at the outskirts of Faskari town, the Headquarters of Faskari local government area of Katsina State, the Chief of Army Staff said, the exercise will cover Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara States to fight against Banditry and other criminality bedivilling the affected states.

    “The exercise will be conducted in partnership with all sister security agencies to contain Banditry activities in the North West”. Buratai said.

    He used the opportunity to Commission 10 locally made Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Operational Vehicles nicknamed (Conquerer). The combat vehicles have been manufactured in a military workshop in 7 Division workshop Maiduguri and are injected to support the ongoing operation SAHEL SANITY.

    Buratai ordered for the manufacturing of 20 additional Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Operational Vehicles in order to consolidate fight Banditry and criminals activities in the Country.

    Meanwhile, the Commander 107 division equipments support Maiduguri, Brig. Gen. Babatunde Ibrahim Alaya while handing over the vehicles to the Chief of Army Staff manufactured by his Division, stated that, the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle (Conquerer) has bullet proof, 125 klm per hour, carry two drivers and 10 fully operational officers respectively.

    “The vehicles manufactured by the Nigerian Army will help to fight in Katsina, Sokoto, Niger, Kaduna and Sokoto states, where inaugurated and
    officially Flag off the Exercise Sahel Sanity today 6th July 2020 to 6th September, 2020 the exercise will mitigate armed Banditry within Katsina Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger”. Buratai further stated.

    Gen Buratai, further assured that the Nigerian Army will exercise their primary assignment within the ambit of the laws while appealing communities affected with insecurity in the Zone on the needs to cooperate with Military for the successful operations, while Commend the governors of Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara for the support given to his troops in their quest to combat criminals activities in their respective states.
