Months after the victory, golden coach of the Kaduna State Peace Unity Cup, Coach Lawrence Ekele who led Sports FC to lift the trophy has opened up on secrets behind the victory of his team at the competition.
Technically sound Coach Ekele disclosed to our correspondent that hard work and determination gave his team victory at the maiden edition of Kaduna State Peace Unity Cup.
“We are still grateful to God for the victory we recorded. It didn’t come easy, because other teams equally had good players, but determination and hard work gave us victory.
” We are delighted that I helped my team to win the first edition of Kaduna State Peace Unity Cup under the supervision of the state government and Association of Kaduna State Traders on December 18, 2019,” he said.
On how his team emerged champions, he recalled that they were able to win eight straight matches to lift the trophy by beating Electrical Association FC 2-1 in a tension filled final match.
“At the presentation ceremony, I won the Best Coach of the Tournament and the Highest Goal Scorer also emerged from my team after netting in a total of nine goals,” he added.
On plans for the second edition billed for 2020, he explained that they are gearing up to defend and win back-to-back to retain the trophy.
The Kaduna State Peace Unity Cup features various trade groups who field teams by uniting with others engaging in same type of business.
2019 champions, Sports FC is a union of all traders that sell sports kits and equipment in Kaduna State.
