The Directors of Sports from the North West Zone of the country have handed out warning to those representing it on boards of sporting Federations to up their game or give room to others who would perform.
They handed out the warning at a meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, held via Zoom Conference on Monday.
According to the communique signed by the Zonal Coordinator North-West Zone, Idris Abdullahi, they also outlined several sporting activities billed to take place after the ban on Sporting activities following the outbreak of COVID-19 is lifted by the Federal Government.
“Note with dismay the General Attitude and Conduct of some
elected representatives on the Board of various sports federation
since elected and called on them to live up to expectations or
honourably-give way for other proactive individuals,” it stated.
Katsina State to host U-17 Weight-lifting Championship if the ban
on sporting event is lifted by the Government.
“Kano State to host U-17 Table-tennis Championship if the ban on
Sporting Events is lifted.
“Jigawa State to host Capacity Building (seminar) on Grassroots
Sports Development for games Masters/Mistress, Communities –
Clubs Coaches, Clubs and Associations Secretaries when the ban on Sporting Events is lifted.
“Conduct of late Sir, Ahmadu Bello (Sardaunan Sokoto) and
Premier of Northern Nigeria U-17 Soccer Championship at
Kaduna when ban on Sporting Activities is lifted,” it informed.
It further informed that Kebbi State will host the National Youth Games Zonal elimination for team sports when ban on Teams Sports is eventually lifted by the host government.
The meeting commended the efforts of the federal, state, local governments and the private organizations in the fight against total eradication of CoronaVirus.
They also commended efforts of the governments of Kaduna, Sokoto and Zamfara states on Sport Facilities Development, describing it as “highly commendable”.
The efforts and contributions of cricket, taekwando, weight-lifting and volleyball federations representatives were hailed.
“We passionately call on others representing the zone to emulate their visionary leadership on training support/assistance to athletes and officials most especially as we are in the midst of COVID-19,” it added.
Assured the Federal government of following due protocols as contained in the sporting codes fashioned out by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Also assured the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development of its readiness to participate at the National Youth Games and the National Sports Festival when Sporting Activities are unbanned by the government.
The meeting recorded the participation of all Directors of Sports within the Zone, the Secretary of National Youth Games and the Director of Grassroots
Sports Developments Department of the Federal Ministry of Youth and
Sports.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Babangida Hussaini (Walin Kazaure) was nominated to fill the vacant
position of the Zone on the Board of Nigeria Weight-Lifting Federation due to the death of elected member, Alhaji Yahaya
Mohammed (Big Man).
The meeting was held between 03:15 to 03:55pm.
