A youth group in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, the state capital, Elekuru Progressive Youth Forum on August 1, celebrated its annual day tagged “Security watch, Say no to ritual killings”.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman Oyo State Vigilante Group, Alhaji Abiodun Olabamiji enjoined Elekuru community to be security conscious of their environment and assist relevant security agencies on useful information about criminal activities happening in their locality.
He stressed that security is the responsibility of all, while appreciating the continuous effort of the founder of Elekuru Progressive Youth Forum for a job well done.
Olabamiji however warned criminal elements sabotaging the efforts of the youth forum to desist before the long arm of the law catches up on them.
He stated that, Elekuru village is notoriously known for drug abuse, particularly “Indian hemp” that has become major part on the lives of youth in the community where relevant agencies are working to sensitize and re-orient them against the danger of drug abuse with countless arresting of deviants to serve as lesson to others.
The founder of the youth forum, Comr. Adigun -Olaide in his words, admonished youth to be actively involved in the collective effort to fight against criminality and work towards the development of the community by assisting the government.
He however, appreciated all those present at the occasion and wished them journey mercies to their destinations.
Also present at the event, the president Akinyele Youth Forum, Comr. Caleb Kabiru speaking to newsmen; appreciated the tireless efforts of the progressive forum and called on youth to support the initiative aimed at developing the community.
In his words ” This is a great opportunity for youth to collectively work for the development of our various communities and desist from all forms of criminality”.
