Ebonyi State Commissioner of Information and State Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji, has threatened to effect the arrest of the News Editor of Fastlink Newspapers, Mr. Nelson Nwefuru in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, on account of alleged extortion.

The sad event took place at the Bishop’s Hall, Pastoral Centre in mile 50 Abakaliki, during a peaceful meeting with former Abakpa landlords whom their properties were marked for demolition and those their properties have been demolished already by the state government.

The meeting, which was chaired by the  Senior Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Religion and Welfare Matters, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, who also doubles as the chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ebonyi State Chapter had in attendance the Commissioner for Information Barr. Uchenna Orji and that of Lands and Survey Hon. Emmanuel Uguru.

Authentic News reporter gathered that drama ensued between the duo,  when the media aide to Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, accused Mr Nelson of Fastlink Newspaper of an attempt to sideline the Christian Association of Nigeria Television (CAN TV) reporters of having access to the Reverend Father after a press conference, where the information commissioner made the none indigeneous landlords to accept that they are pleased to have their properties demolished for the purpose of developing the city of David, while having them on record by the state owned television(EBBC/Salt Tv).

On the account of the journalists, Mr Uchenna Orji was quoted to have accused Mr Nelson Nwefuru and Mr Ejike Ikele of MCL Television as an illegal operators parading themselves as journalists.

According to him,“I have seen your faces, you. In several events within the state without you being invited or accredited by me.

“I don’t know what give you journalists the right to be attending government events without invitation.

“This is the last time I will see you in events as such without invitation, next time I see you, I will arrest you” Mr Uchenna Orji said.

When Mr Nelson and Mr Ikele tried to talk to the said Commissioner politely, to clarify issues to him.

    The commissioner added:

“If you say anything again I will slap you here”.

Recall that Mr Uchenna Orji had threatened to arrest the publisher of People’s Guide Newspaper, comrade Isreal mbam, on may 2020, during the Democracy Day celebration because of mismanagement of information at his disposal by his handler whom he sent to represent him in an interview with Mr Israel Mbam to clerify the publishing company on why Ebonyi state intend not to celebrate 29th may Democracy Day.

The affected journalists expressed displeasure with the attitude of the information commissioner towards some journalists who are loyal to him as they described his attitude as show of shame and maintained that the commissioner is seeing himself to be incharge of journalists in Ebonyi state as he now claimed that one must get his approval before covering Public function whereas, he is not NUJ Chairman.
