The Redemption Team under which Comrade Mike Ikeogwu has been reelected as the council chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Delta State approached qualified journalists in the state in a slow but result oriented campaign on why he should be given a second term as the chairman of the union in the state.
Members of the team started by saying that Comrade Ikeogwu was able to secure out of court settlement of the NUJ Land dispute that had stalled the completion of the permanent site of the union Press Centre in Asaba, adding that he worked hard to restore stipends to all chapels of the union in the state, just as they praised his fairness in ensuring that Christmas packages got to all chapels of the union in the state.
They argued that the uncompleted building of the permanent Press Centre in Asaba which was handed over to him was defective, but which he restructured, turning its roofing pattern from 17th Century model to the trending 21st Century send down the rain pattern, adding that Comrade Ikeogwu is a man of peace who had brought his responsive mien to bear on the council of the union in the state.
Speaking in one of the campaigns of the team to a chapel of the union in Warri, the Director General of the team, Ogbeni Felix Igbekoyi, maintained that Comrade Ikeogwu had not only worked hard to restore peace to the union in the state, but was able to get a temporary press centre for the council in the state, adding that members should not forget in a hurry how the boldness, humility and courage of Comrade Ikeogwu had brought respectability to the council.
He maintained that the successful organising of two press weeks of the union in the state was an indication of the respect the general public had for the union, adding that apart from very many other innovations Comrade Ikeogwu brought to bear on the union, the ability to organise the first Ned Nwoko Tennis Championship in collaboration with the union in the state as well as ensuring that members of the union were accorded the right of place in the state were reasons enough to reelect him as the council chairman to enhance his consolidating on his first term as the union chairman in the state.
From one chapel to another, the team pleaded for Comrade Ikeogwu’s reelection, hitting it harder in some other chapels. Yes, let’s use this opportunity to thank journalists in the state for having absolute confidence in the ability of Comrade Ikeogwu to deliver on the fresh mandate given him as the chairman of the union in Delta State. Personally, I am happy that he is a man of conscience and would not renege on his electoral promises to members of the union in the state. What is now expected of all is absolute support for him to succeed in the task of taking the NUJ to greater heights in the state and beyond.
