Member Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing Afikpo North, Hon. Kingsley Ogbonnaya Ikoro has called on the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Umahi to liase with the management of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), in order to supply power to the area especially for the Yuletide season.
The lawmaker made the call in a motion during plenary, kamenting the failure of the company to provide the area with light for the past eight years.
According to him: “Afikpo had no light for about eight years now, and by Community efforts, and some EEDC, the lights have been revitalised.
“but because of the long non functional of the cable and rest other materials, most of the transformers in Afikpo are not working, and now we are looking at it as a community to start buying transformer to get light.
“My question is; are we buying transformer for EEDC to use and do their business and bill us?
“It is sad, and I am appealing to the governor of the state to liase with the EEDC as father of the state, to find a lasting solution to this problem, a local government cannot stay without light for eight years, it’s sad”
He Lamented over the dilapidating nature of transformers in Afikpo due to none usage and vandalisation, adding that lack of electricity has affected business activities in the area as alot of business owners had relocated from the town.
He, however, called the people to remain calm as effort is on gear to ensure the challenge facing the electricity is brought to the barrest minimum.
