NEMA distributes 400 Bags Of Beans, Maize, 10 Bags Of Salt, 30 Packets Of Seasoning, Others To Kaduna Flood Victims

    The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday distributed relief materials to 400 housholds affected by flood in Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

    The Director-General of NEMA, AVM Mohammed Muhammad, represented by Mr Imam Garki, North West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, said the relief materials consisted of foodstuff, building materials and other household items.

    He said during the distribution of the items that it was necessary due to the flood which forced people out of their homes, causing loss of lives and damage to property.

    “We are simultaneously undertaking similar distribution in Chikun and Kaduna South LGA, and soon Kaduna North, targeting 838 housholds,” the director general said.

    Mohammed said the relief materials include 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans, 200 bags of maize, 10 bags of salt, 30 packets of seasoning, 17 cartons of tomato paste and 20 kegs vegetable oil.

    Others are mattresses, 400 mosquito nets, 800 calling boards, 800 bags of cement, 800 roofing sheets, and nails.

    Yau Mahmood , Director, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, said the items being donated were meant to cushion the effect of the losses during the incident.

    He urged the beneficiaries to properly utilise and not to sell or use them for other purposes.

    Kabir Khamis, Chairman, Igabi LGA, commended the Federal Government for its timely intervention, saying the relief items would help to cushion the effects of the flood disaster.

    He advised the beneficiaries to maintain peace while receiving the relief items.

    Two of the beneficiaries, Hafsat Muhammed and Hassan Madaki, appreciated the government for the relief items, which they said would go a long way in reducing their hardship.
