NEMA, FRSC Flag Off Operation Eagle In Kaduna

    The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in conjunction with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday in Kaduna flagged off “Operation Eagle Eye” to handle road emergencies.
    The operation was an initiative of NEMA in collaboration with the lead agency, FRSC, with assistance and support of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and the Nigeria Red Cross Society.
    Speaking at the occasion held on Kaduna- Zaria road, the Zonal coordinator of the agency, Imam Garki,  said the annual operation is aimed at reducing road crashes in major roads especially during the yuletide.
    He said the main objective of the exercise was also to sensitize motorists, road unions, passengers and the public to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
    He said the initiative was also aimed at complementing other stakeholders, especially the FRSC in tackling road accidents.
    According to the zonal coordinator, the 18-day programme, expected to last between 17th December, 2020, through 4th January, 2021.
    Garki mentioned that NEMA officials are manning in Kaduna-Zaria, Kaduna- Birnin, Kaduna – Abuja and Kaduna – Kachia roads.
    He said NEMA officers and stakeholders would be stationed in the locations to monitor and ensure non reckless driving, sensitize drivers to be moderate on their speed limit and avoid drunken behaviour.
    Nuhu Batagara, commander Brinin Yero unit FRSC, commended NEMA for the initiative as seafty is everyone’s business.
    “NEMA have cutting edge instruments to help accident victims, when accident victims are trapped, we have the kits to help them out”
    He advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations while plying the roads for their own interest, because life has no duplicate.
    Present at the flag-off were Red Cross, KASTLEA, FRSC, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
