Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Man In His 30s In Delta

    A man in his late 30s, Identified  simply as Eguono, has been reportedly knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle at the popular Airport Junction, besides Forte Filling Station, in Uvwie Local Government Council Area of Delta State. 
    Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night, at about 11:45pm, the deceased died instantly. 
    Sources said that, “the deceased (Equono) was known to do different kinds of labour to make a living and usually played football in the area. 
    “Another person yet to be identified was hit in the accident, but managed to get up from the scene to seek aid.
    “The deceased was well-known in the neighbourhood and was relaxing in drinking bar with friends, when he received a phone call to help fix a cement truck that broke down across the road.
    “But on his way back, he was knocked down by the vehicle. People gathered but were afraid to rush him to a hospital. We heard him grunting till about past 12am when he became still.
    “His parents are late and he lives with his siblings around. He is an Isoko boy. When he was hit, he was thrown to the side of the road and fell face down, with blood oozing from his ears, nose and mouth. The driver of the vehicle ran away.
    “It was this morning that one keke man (tricycle rider) came and said ‘we have to turn him so that he can be identified’. It was someone who came and seeing the clothes he wore yesterday, recognized him. Because his face was swollen. The sister came too and was crying.
    “It was friends that took the body away from the scene at about 8am”. Sources narrated.
    When contacted for comments, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said, “the case may not have been reported to the Police”.
