The Olu of Warri, Ikenwoli Godfrey Emiko, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta has reportedly died of COVID-19.
AUTHENTIC NEWS DAILY: gathered that the monarch died on Sunday, less than a week after his fifth coronation anniversary. Though there is no official statement from the palace yet.
According to sources, he was said to have met with the late Major General John Oregon, who died earlier in this month from COVID-19 complications.
“The Olu of Warri, Ikenwoli Godfrey Emiko, died of COVID-19. The monarch died barely a week after his fifth coronation anniversary.
However, none of the chiefs in the palace was willing to confirm the report, at the same time none also could come out and deny it, there was palpable apprehension in the palace vicinity on Monday while some subjects were seen around the palace in a sombre mood.
A source confirmed the news to our correspondent when she said that, “yes it is true, a big man came around on Monday morning and told us in secret that the Olu is dead. But according to the tradition the information is not going out until after 30/90days. The monarch died on Sunday evening from the COVID-19 he contacted.
Another source said, “Olu of Warri is dead but the palace chiefs are trying to keep the information hidden from the public till they are sure the time is right, ”the source said.
The late monarch, was born March 19, 1955, ascended the throne on December 12, 2015.
