The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has faulted the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) over its statement in respect to the group’s earlier views on the Christmas message of Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Reverend Father Matthew Hassan Kukah.
In a statement signed by the Chairman AYCF Kaduna State, Sagir Umar, the group slammed SOKAPU for backing Bishop Kukah.
“The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has read the desperate attempt by the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) to regain relevance after its several mischievous machinations that involve the manipulation of religion to perpetrate violence in the southern part of the state has been bursted and its grip on the poor ethnicities of the area slackened.
“SOKAPU’s frustrated desperation, veiled in a recent statement purportedly in response to our disagreement with Mathew Hassan Kukah’s treacherous call to mutiny against the state came a few months after it was silenced by a group of peace loving southern Kaduna indigenes who rejected their divisive antics,” it said.
AYCF said that for the avoidance of doubt, no amount of pressure would make the group and all law abiding Nigerians and the civilized global community to accept such utterances it described as inciting by Kukah or any other person as democratically legitimate.
“And since we’re in a society that is supposed to be governed by democratic norms and values we insist that Kukah’s utterances amount to felony against the Nigerian state and he should be interrogated.
“The second argument that further exposed SOKAPU’S frustration and desperation for the glory that it has lost, is when it expressly endorsed Kukah’s call for a coup against a democratically elected government by citing the 1983 coup as justification,” it added.
The group said that all over the world, military coups by any group or persons have never been justifiable.
“Besides unlike Kukah’s attempt to blame Northern Muslims of topling Southern leaders, SOKAPU’S example proves that all coups championed by Northern Muslims officers were against fellow Northern Muslim leaders.
“Therefore either SOKAPU or Kukah or both, must in some desperation to concoct lies which points to a much wider, mega clandestine plot against the Nigerian state which is in itself treasonable,” it.concluded.
