The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANR), Delta State, has commenced a fee rabies vaccination campaign program in Warri South local government area of Delta State.
MANR commenced the campaign on Friday February 19, 2021in Warri.
The campaign flag off, was also held at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, and was attended by individuals who came to vaccinate their dogs.
In his address, The Warri South, Warri South – West Local Government Area Veterinary Officer, Dr. Uguru Oroghene Hyacinth, said that human health is confronted with a lot of challenges, mainly due to infectious and non – infectious diseases, some of which are zoonotic in nature.
She describing rabies as a silent but vicious disease of dogs, cats, ferrets and carnivorous bats among others.
Dr. Uguru, cautioned that “a bite or wound contact with a rabid dog’s saliva, is enough to contract rabies, which could lead to death.
“Prevention of rabies in humans can be achieved basically by eliminating rabies in dogs and other reservoirs.
On her part, during her opening remarks, the Warri South local government Council Director of Personnel Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, adviced that, “the people of Warri South Local Government Area, particularly those with dogs, cats , ferrets and carnivorous bats to take advantage of the programme to vaccinate the aforementioned pets”.
The Warri South Local Government Boss, Dr. ( Mrs.) Minnie Igbrude, Treasurer to Warri South Local Government Council, Mr. Ugborugbo Moses and Dr. Mosinimi Mosimabale. Gave the free rabies vaccination of some dogs.
