The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago is an assurance of salvation for Christians.
President of The United Church Of Christ in Nigeria popularly known as HEKAN, Rev. (Dr.) Amos G. Kiri expressed this in his Easter message.
According to him, to the ordinary man, Easter is just an annual event celebrated by Christians.
“However, to true believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, Easter is more than just a mere annual ritual and celebration. For us believers, Easter is the assurance of our salvation because Christ s death and resurrection brought us salvation.
“He has set us free from cternal condemnation that has been hanging on us since the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that, “The scripture says, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus(Rom3:23).
“He did not only die, he rose again after three (3) days. This victoryover death is what we are celebrating because when we die too in this flesh, we shall rise again like Jesus Christ,” he added.
He urged all faithful to tell the whole world that “Jesus Christ Is Risen from the death triumphantly.”
He therefore, urged the world not to panic.
“In over two thousand years ago when Jesus came to the sinful world in human form, the world and its leaders were in a very terrible panic state and chaos.
“Leaders and the led were looking for solutions to worlds problems because of the situations they couldn’t control.
“Rather than the situation getting better, it was growing from bad to worst. Evil had taken over good in the world and mankind call evil good and good evil.
“The sons of God have compromised their righteousness; they took the daughters of humans and had children withthem.
“Justice has been tempered with. There was chaos everywhere. All these were related to sin that had separated man from his Maker. It was in the midst of this chaos that God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his own blood-to be received by faith (Rom. 3:25).
“Out of love, God’s only begotten son Jesus Christ gave his life on the cross of Calvary to complete his mission and salvage the situations on earth.
“Though we are in the 21″ century, sadly we have found ourselves in the same situation at it werein the 1” century. The world is in a panic and different kinds of methods and strategies have been employed by world leaders in other to arrest the situation but to no avail.
“The good news is that the burden bearer, Jesus Christ, handsare still wide open for all that are willing to have lasting peace. He said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives (John 14:27). His death and triumphant resurrection brought about salvation, hope and peace in the dying world,” he said.
