The Medical Director Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Kaduna, Professor Abdulkareem Jika Yusuf has bagged an award of excellence for service to humanity.
Presenting the award at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone A maiden roundtable and zonal meeting held at Arewa House, Kaduna to Alhaji Mahmud Alhassan Director Administration Federal Neuro Psychiatrist Hospital Kaduna who represented the Medical Director, Senator Uba Sani commended the giant strides of Professor Jika Yusuf at the hospital, stressing that such massive projects executed within his first tenure show his doggedness to stewardship.
Nigeria Union of Journalists said it gave the Medical Director the award for giving media practitioners free psychological care and massive projects at the Mental Health Facility.
Speaking with newsmen, Alhaji Mahmud Alhassan who represented the Medical Director said, “from his assumption as MD to the time of filing in this time, no single power cut has been recorded at the hospital, which has given the giant power generating sets provided by his predecessor respite.
“Through direct labour, his management has repaired all the collapsed boreholes in the hospital for optimum performance, while nine soak-ways were evacuated and repaired across the length of the hospital.
“What would interest one to know is that, in the School of Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing, the Yusuf’s management has made a general renovation of all structures such as overall paintings, tiling of restrooms, placement of PVC ceiling in all the structure and provision of wardrobe cabinet in all the hostels, while in the school library, a new set of five desktop computers were installed to ease research and studies of both teachers and the taught.
“In the feeding of patients, Prof. AJ Yusuf’s accomplishments are glaring. He ensured all feeding allowances are paid as and when due to the contractors. No single monthly nonpayment is recorded to date.
“Similarly, in the fueling of all official vehicles, he introduced a smooth and prudent system which is cashless now – all vehicles are using cards to refuel at certain filling station without any hitches or likely hiccups usually arising as a result. It is in the pharmacy department that, Prof. A.J. Yusuf scored the highest credit in his prudence.
“He continued the drugs revolving scheme with 240,000 Naira, the hospital is now having a stock of assorted drugs of over 24 million Naira in its pharmacy.
“There are no drugs which patients cannot get at the hospital now. In fact, the pharmacy department can boast of being the most stocked and equipped with all psychiatric drugs. What a prudent management of resources!
“Above all, Prof. A.J. Yusuf’s attributes are based on honesty, prudent management of scarce resources as well as transparent leadership; hence his achievements speak for themselves in the hospital.
He said several projects are ongoing at the hospital which include, procurement and Installation of Ten (10) Bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipment, procurement and Installation of Isolation Centre Equipment, procurement and Installation of Hematology Equipment for Molecular Laboratory and procurement and Installation of Clinical Chemistry & Reagents Equipment for Molecular Laboratory.
Other projects according to him are, Procurement and Installation of Molecular Biology Equipment, Reagents and others Equipment for Molecular Laboratory, Procurement of two (2) number of Ambulances for Ten (10) Bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
He also listed the Construction & Furnishing of Ten (10) Bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Construction & Furnishing of Isolation Centre and Construction & Furnishing of Molecular Laboratory.
