Delta NURTW Chairman, Aararo Stresses Needs For Peace

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State

The Chairman of the National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Delta Chapter, Comrade (Chief) Dennis Araro, has again reiterated the need to maintain the peace by calling on the disbanded faction of the union to obey the High Court judgement that affirmed his leadership of the union in the state.

Comrade Araro stated this at the Labour House in Asaba, the state capital, while fielding questions from newsmen.

He said that there was the urgent need for constituted authorities to enforce the verdict of the court which had stopped the warring faction from further operating in the motor parks across the state, adding that it smacked of contempt of the court for the disbanded faction to continue to constitute hindrances for the union to operate in the parks, wondering why his members were being arrested and charged with trumped up charges in the course of carrying out their legitimate duties at the motor parks by the police.

He disclosed that while mayhem was let lose in a motor park at Issele Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state, leaving one of his members macheted and hospitalised, another set of his men had been arrested in Asaba for inexplicable reasons in the course of carrying out their duties.

The labour leader frowned at the arrest of his members, saying that they were law abiding citizens, who were only obeying the court judgement that had given them the go ahead to return to the motor parks for the legitimate discharge of their duties, just as he argued, that if anything, those flouting the court judgement without any appeal, should be the ones to be arrested for contempt of the court and not the other way round.

He appealed to concerned authorities, including the state government, to call the defaulting breakaway faction of the union to desist from breaching the  law and order and embrace the peaceful actualisation of the Stronger Delta vision of the Okowa Administration in the state, even as he urged his members to continue to maintain the existing peace in the state in the face of unnecessary provocations.
