The Chairman of the Northern Speakers Forum/Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Honourable Yusuf Zailani has giving a matching order for the immediate employment of 2,300 sportsmen and women in Kaduna State within the next 30 days.
His Senior Special Adviser on Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams disclosed this while Fielding questions from newsmen on Saturday in Kaduna after he held a meeting with stakeholders.
According to Honourable Ekene, those that will be employed will be entitled to monthly salaries.
“The Speaker who is poised at reducing the number of unemployed youth in the state has said no time should be wasted in engaging the youth.
“The beneficiaries will be from several sports. But for now we are looking at football, basketball, volleyball and athletics,” he disclosed.
The SSA said that the Speaker who is concerned about the dwindling fortunes of the North in sports, appointed him to see how they can revitalize the sector.
“The Speaker has done well by giving me this appointment, I appreciate him.
“It is high time we bring back glory of sports in 19 Northern States and Kaduna.
“Take a look at NSF for instance, you see athletes from Kaduna winning medals for other states,” he said.
Honourable Ekene explained that they will be bringing together key stakeholders to sit and draw a road map on how the North will be reckoned with in sports.
“You are all part of stakeholders, we need to join hands and achieve this together,” he added.
On the date of state owned Kaduna United Football Club, he backed Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s push for investors to fund sports like it’s done in other parts of the world.
“The Governor has said the way sports is run the world over, investors should be involved.
You don’t expect the British govt to keep putting money into a club like Manchester United, it is privately run,” he explained.
On overall sports development in the North, he said they will work with State mInistries of sports.
“We will work hand in hand with the Ministry of Sports Development Kaduna State and other states in the North,” he added.
