The All Progressives Congress (APC), Zamfara State chapter has described the defection of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to their party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday June 29, 2021 as a mere ceremony, insisting that only the outcome of a tripartite committee would make it valid.
This was contained in a statement signed  on behalf of the Senator Kabir Garba Marafa (CON) faction, signed by Dr. Mika’ilu Barau, made available on Tuesday night.
“One important condition of the engagement is to consider the event happening in Gusau as a mere ceremony that should be guided by the proposed tripartite meeting of the state leadership of APC, Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle group with him in person and the national leadership of the party. This tripartite meeting should hold within one week after the ceremony in Gusau.
“Agreements reached during the tripartite meeting will be closely monitored by all the parties. Any attempt by the Governor to violate the terms of the agreement will be contested. Also, apparent and perpetual violations of the terms will give both parties (APC or Governor Mutawalle) the right to take necessary legal actions against the Governor until justice prevails,” it said.
The Zamfara State Chapter of APC explained that  all the executive members of the Party from 147 Wards and 14 Local Governments Areas of Zamfara State and other key stakeholders  were invited in thousands to a three-day meeting in Kaduna from 27th-30th June, 2021 for consultation on the persistent appeal of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawallen Maradun of PDP to decamp to APC.

“The Zamfara State APC is proud of its achievement of building a Party that is irresistible to the highest office holder of the state. The leadership of the Party considers this as a great asset to protect at all cost in the interest of its teaming members. The Party wants to achieve this by ensuring that party members are participants in the development and ratification of the terms of the decamping.
“As part of the intermediate outcomes of our engagements, we requested that the planned decamping ceremony happening today, 29th June, 2021 at Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, should be delayed until a tripartite committee comprising the leadership of APC in Zamfara State, the decamping Governor and the national leadership of APC meet to agree on the terms of the decamping.
“We were made to understand that the ceremony could not be postponed due to the level of preparations reached. On this note, the Zamfara State Chapter of APC under the leadership of His Excellency, the former Governor of Zamfara State, Hon. Abdul’Azeez Yari Abubakar, proposed to opt out of the decamping ceremony and allow the national leadership to proceed while the Party plans to take appropriate actions,” it said.
The statement explained that the national leadership of the party, comprising the Chairman Caretaker Committee, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni; Governor of Kaduna State, Mal. Nasir el-Rufai; Governor of Borno State, Prof. Ummaru Zulum; Governor of Kogi State, Mal. Yahaya Bello; Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Atiku Bagudu; and Governor of Jigawa State, Alh. Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar informed the party chapter of the special appeal of President Muhammadu Buhari for the former Governor of Zamfara State, Hon. Abdul’Azeez Yari Abubakar to participate in the ceremony.
“On the request of the caretaker Chairman through Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, the state and national leadership of the party delegated Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa (CON) to brief members on the development and the terms of the engagements in Kaduna.
“The party leadership expresses sincere appreciation to its members for the commitment to democratic ethos that led to building a party that becomes the envy of all even without elective positions from the legal mishap of the 2019 general elections.
“The party leadership assures its members of the commitment to work hard and reclaim the leadership position of the state with a view to sustaining the momentum of development and transformation acknowledged by all in the state and beyond,” it informed.
