FG Assures On Implementation Of Nigeria Correctional Service Act, Tasks Officers On Patrotism

    Federal Government has said that it is fully committed towards implementing the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019 with a view to facilitating the realization of its objectives in the country.
    The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola stated this on Friday in Kaduna during the passing Out Parade of the Assistant Superintendent of Correction (ASC) Basic Course, at the Correctional Service Staff College.
    Represented by the Director Joint Services, Mr. Peter Egbodo, the Interior Minister expressed the Federal Government’s determination under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari towards implementing policies and programmes that would improve the well-being of citizenry including those behind the bars.
    According to him, the Federal Government would always accord due attention to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) as evident by the massive transformation that is ongoing across the country including the service for optimal productivity.
    Mr. Rauf Aregbesola charged the Cadet officers whom he described as change agents, to remain resolute towards ensuring reformation, rehabilitation and successful re-intergration of deviants back into the society including the various non- custodian alternatives as contained in the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019.
    The Minister explained that the basic course is basically designed to expose the officers to the rudiments of the management and general administration with special emphasis to custodian and non custodian components of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
    He reminded them that, as front line managers in the Nigeria Correctional Service, their roles would be crucial in the promotion of national security, crime prevention and control as well as ensuring safety and security of those in their custody.
    Rauf Aregbesola assured the Correctional Cadets Officers that the Ministry of Interior in conjunction with Immigration and Federal Fire Service among others would always collaborate with the Controller General of Corrections and his team to ensure appropriate measures are put in place for the smooth administration of the service.
    The Interior Minister further stated that, the collaboration would also promote and ensure good welfare package  for the Correctional Service Officers and the inmates in the nation’s Custodian Centres.
    He applauded the Commandant of the college, ACGC Benson Abolade Victor, the directing staff and the entire team of the college for their efforts at ensuring that the institution continues to fulfill its mandate of training and re-training of Correctional Officers particularly in the line of emerging national and global security challenges. 
    Aregbesola congratulated the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Mr. Haliru Nababa on his appointment and urged him to continue the good work from where his predecessor stopped.
    The Minister enjoined all the officers and men of the Nigeria Correctional Service to remain disciplined, patrotic and diligent in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities especially in the light of the prevailing security challenges confronting the country.
    He said as major stakeholders in the Nigeria project, the Federal Government of Nigeria would expect much from them with a view to moving the country forward especially in the area of peace and national security.
