The Kaduna Police Command has arrested five suspects in Kagarko Local Government Area, located in Southern axis of the state over allegedly being in possession of illegal firearms.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, dated July 25, 2021.
“On the 24th July, 2021 the Kaduna Police Command received a report through Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kubacha that on the same date at about 0900hrs information emanating from Kenyi village in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State, has it that some people of the said village were engaged in a hostile fracas over a piece of land,” it said.
It informed that the situation deteriorated to a boiling point that resulted in one of the disputing parties threatening with dangerous arms to eliminate a certain Dauda Fidelis ‘M’ who is one of the opposing waring party.
“On receipt of the information, the DPO immediately mobilized to the site and swiftly averted what would have been a tragedy and arrested five (5) suspects who were later identified in the course of investigation as; (1) Ishaya Daniel ‘m’ (2) Sunday Musa ‘m’ (3) Douglas Inuwa ‘m’ (4) Kefas Inuwa m and (5) Ezra Inuwa all of Kenyi village and recovered from them an AK47 rifle loaded with twenty nine (29) rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm ammunitions and a 9 x 18mm Makarov pistol loaded with seven (7) rounds of 9mm live ammunitions,” it added.
The statement explained that it is worthy of note that the swift response by the Police did not only forestall the foreseeable calamity but also restored normalcy in the community.
“Investigation into the incident is ongoing to unravel the source of the firearms and a possible arrest of more suspects in order to dispossess them of their illegal weapons, if any.
“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police Kaduna Command, CP UM Muri is calling on all communities to always embrace dialogue as an alternative dispute resolution rather than taking up arms against each other that will result in to an unintended but disastrous consequences,” it adviced.
The Commissioner also pledged to dispassionately investigate the incident and prosecute all those found culpable to serve as a deterrent to would-be others.
