Ahead of the September 15 deadline handed out by the National Assembly for a nod for 44 bills needing assent of state assemblies, the State Team Lead, Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL FCDO), Abel Adejor has charged electorate in Kaduna to persuade their representatives to vote in favour of legislative autonomy and other amendments that will translate to good governance.

Adejor stated this at a One-Day Citizens’ Engagement on the Utilisation of Identified Technology Driven Platforms for Tracking and Documenting Campaign Commitments in the 2023 Elections, held in Kaduna on Thursday September 8, 2022.

“Only 10 states so far have voted, they need to get 14 more,” he said.

Adejor said that Kaduna Assembly by September 15 will be returning the 44 legislative bills to the National Assembly.

Speaking further on the need to engage candidates ahead of the 2023 polls constructively on how to keep to campaign promises.

He said that if possible, PERL will make arrangements to do a bigger engagement to ensure campaign, sensitization and advocacy goes wider.

On the terms of support for The Agenda, a project aimed at holding political office holders accountable, he opened up that PERL is only giving The Agenda technical support.

“It is important that we know that PERL is not giving The Agenda a dime, the only thing we are supporting is their engagement. What we do is technical support.

“If PERL is not there any other day, The Agenda can sustain and stand on its own,” he explained.

The Partnership for Issues-Based Campaign in (Nigeria PICaN) under its flagship project ‘The Agenda’ supported by the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL FCDO) organized the meeting.
