The Igbo Community Welfare Association (ICWA) Kaduna State chapter at the weekend, bestowed an award of Excellence in Public Service to Kaduna based Channels TV Correspondent, Mr Chimezie Enyiocha in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the growth of the association in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
The occasion was well attended by sons and daughters within and outside the state, who turned out in large numbers to unite and celebrate with all the awardees.
The award ceremony was part of the activities that marked the Igbo celebration of the association in Kaduna at the weekend.
Speaking shortly before making the presentation, the President General of ICWA in Kaduna State, Chief Francis Ani in specific mention, described Mr. Enyiocha as a committed person who gives attention to the activities at all times and that his contributions has helped the growth of the association in no small measures.
He further described the awardee as a worthy Igbo son who has distinguished himself in professional journalism and very deserving of the award.
Responding, the awardee, Mr Chimeze Enyiocha said, “I am very excited and happy and this tells you that charity must begin at home. Anywhere you are, it is important to associate with your kinsmen and I think since I came to Kaduna State, I have always identified with my kinsmen and attended all Igbo activities and within my capacity, I have been able to serve my people in Kaduna and they have identified my little contributions and that has resulted in the Award Of Excellence in Public Service that has been given to me today.
“To whom much is given, much is expected, I will continue to do my best and I want to use this medium to tell all and sundry that wherever you are and whatever you are, to always identify with your people either at home or in diaspora, it will foster unity and development not only among your community but in the country at large” he said.
Various well wishes who spoke on the award on Mr. Enyiocha attested to the fact that the award was indeed a well deserving one.
